Western Reserve Group — Reviews, Complaints and Ratings

The Western Reserve Group is made up of three Ohio domiciled property and casualty insurance companies. The group conducts business in Ohio and Indiana and are represented exclusively by a quality independent agency force. The three companies include Lightning Rod Mutual Insurance Company, which commenced business in 1906; Western Reserve Mutual Casualty Company, which commenced business in 1937; and Sonnenberg Mutual Insurance Company, which commenced business in 1859. In 2022, Western Reserve Group reorganized into a mutual holding company structure, whereby the three property and casualty companies are owned by WRG Mutual Insurance Holding Company. The reorganization provides enhanced flexibility for the Group while preserving mutuality rights to all policyholders. The companies have a long history of profitable operations and a strong financial condition. This is reflected in the A (Excellent) rating by A.M. Best Company, a well-known and respected company that rates insurance companies.
